Discipleship Resources

QUESTION: Are there Christian discipleship resources?

ANSWER:

The right discipleship resources can make or break your program. Whether you are doing one-on-one discipleship, a small-group ministry, or an on-going mentoring program, consider these fundamentals when selecting material.
  • An Accurate Gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 presents the three major points of the Gospel, "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." It is wise to ask to see the Statement of Faith from the ministry who publishes the material so you are convinced that the material presents accurate doctrine.

  • A Helpful Guide: Does the material present practical guidance for living the Christian life? Many new Christians need the basics first before going into in-depth Bible study. So, if you are disciplining a new Christian, look for material that presents introductory material and progresses at a rate you feel would be effective for the person you are discipling.

  • An Appropriate Length and Purpose: How long is your discipleship program going to last? Locate material that fits the time-frame and purpose of your group.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus
